The National Liberal Club in Helsinki, at the years 1930-38

This web-site, opened 24.2.05, is the first public presentation of the Liberal Club that was established exactly 75 years earlier. The convenors of the Club were Eljas Erkko, the father of Aatos Erkko, the main owner of Sanoma Oy (Helsingin Sanomat, leading newspaper in Finland) and W. W. Tuomioja, the grandfather of present foreign minister Erkki Tuomioja. Backing those two men there was a team of influential citizens deeply worried of the future of the Finnish parliamentary system.

The Club gathered together more than 100 times and the total number of members exceeded 250. The number of discussion documents hit upon is about 50 (until now) and the hunt shall be continued.

This English summary will be extended in the nearest future according to available capacity. Genealogical researchers are invited to ask for more detailed information if they come across with their ancestors in the list of Club members.
